Recover: Do massage guns work? 🔫
Full coverage. Moving from physical therapy and pro sports into the mainstream, massage guns are everywhere – with brands like Hyperice and Therabody touting the benefits of ”percussive therapy.”
The benefits: Percussive therapy uses rapid and repetitive bursts of pressure to massage muscles, increasing blood flow, improving range of motion, and relieving pain.
According to fitness and rehab specialist Dr. Julia Morgan, “The increase in blood flow helps promote muscular recovery post-workout and fight delayed-onset muscle soreness.”
The bottom line: More than a fad, athletes and everyday exercisers can benefit from massage guns. “They are great for those looking for relief from muscular tension, soreness, or looking for a good warmup/recovery routine,” said Dr. Morgan.
Popular massage guns include Hyperice’s Hypervolt range ($129-$329) and Therabody’s Theragun range ($149-$599).
Sleep: Longer or more consistent? 🛌
Consistency is key. Getting to bed and waking up at the same time each day may be more important than how long you sleep.
The data: A recent study analyzing 10M+ hours of data from ~70K participants found that maintaining a regular sleep schedule is a better predictor of longevity than sleep duration.
Why it matters: Most guidelines emphasize sleep duration, but this research suggests sleep regularity – keeping a consistent bedtime and wake-up time – leads to better health outcomes while reducing all-cause mortality.
Keeping our internal clock in check, researchers say disrupting the circadian rhythm can interfere with hormone production, immune health, and cognitive function.
Takeaway: Sleeping 7-9 hours per night is still ideal, but sticking to a predictable sleep-wake cycle pays dividends. So, for optimal well-being, the best answer is: all the above.

Health stack: Dr. Jonathan Leary 💪
Welcome to our Health Stack series, where founders, operators, and experts share their favorite products, supplements, gear, apps, and routines…
This week we’re joined by Dr. Jonathan Leary, the founder and CEO of social wellness club Remedy Place.
Here’s Dr. Leary’s Health Stack:
WHOOP: “I’ve been familiar with WHOOP since their first model, but I only started using it full-time again at the end of 2023. As I fine-tune my program and understand the importance of real-time data for tracking and regular adjustments, it’s become imperative.”
The Katalyst Suit: “After meeting the owner and connecting with them (which is important to me), I incorporated the Katalyst into my routine twice a week. It’s not only an FDA-approved innovation, but also a true leader in the space, providing some of the most intense workouts I’ve ever experienced.”
Ice baths: “It’s a part of my daily practice, something I can’t live without, and honestly, I feel is the most impactful thing we can do for our health in the shortest amount of time.”
Hastens Mattress with Eight Sleep Cover: “My Hastens mattress, custom-matched to my body and needs, coupled with the Eight Sleep cover for biometric monitoring and body temperature regulation, has significantly enhanced my sleep.”
Palo Santo: “My homes are my sanctuaries, and while design is crucial, so is health. I used to burn candles, which are toxic, so I switched to Palo Santo for a healthier aromatic environment.”
