Check Yourself

From full-body scans to at-home blood tests, the health checkup is getting a makeover.

The Brief

Welcome back, Wellworthy readers.

Health testing is moving beyond the doctor’s office.

From bloodwork and biomarkers to performance and recovery, new services are giving consumers more ways to understand their bodies.

This week, we’re breaking down the new wave of health checkups and how to choose one that fits your goals.

Here’s what’s inside:

  • How health testing is becoming more personalized

  • Collegiate rivalries are coming to HYROX

  • FRESH THIS WEEK: A laser skincare wand, running shoes with double carbon plates, and a sleep pill with caffeine

Let’s get into it.

The Feature: The New Health Checkup

The annual physical used to be the main way to check on your health.

Now, you can get a full-body scan, test dozens of biomarkers from home, or even use wearable data to inform your training and recovery.

Neko Health's full-body scanning experience.

With so many options, the best place to start is with what you actually want to learn.

Different tests for different needs

The comprehensive checkup. For people who want a broader snapshot of their health, Neko Health combines body scans, bloodwork, and cardiovascular assessments into one visit.

The deeper dive. For someone looking to understand things like energy levels, hormones, or metabolic health, Superpower and Function Health offer extensive blood testing and ongoing biomarker tracking.

The convenient check-in. For people who want to consistently monitor specific biomarkers without visiting a lab, Rythm offers an at-home blood-testing subscription.

The performance angle. For athletes interested in how their bodies respond to training, Attuned takes a different approach, using hair and saliva samples to assess bioenergetic patterns rather than conventional blood markers.

Testing is going mainstream

Health testing is getting attention well beyond the traditional wellness crowd.

Function teamed up with MrBeast to bring blood testing into a YouTube health challenge, while Neko Health opened its first U.S. clinic in New York, with 25,000 people already on its waitlist.

Meanwhile, Apple Health is adding access to blood testing through Quest, while WHOOP is connecting lab results with wearable data to help users understand how their biomarkers relate to daily activity, sleep, and recovery.

Why it matters

More testing doesn’t automatically mean better health.

The value depends on what you’re trying to learn, whether the test can give you reliable information, and what you can actually do with the results.

With more options than ever, you can find the testing that fits your goals and use the results to make smarter decisions about your well-being.
