Evening workouts, healthy substitutes + ultra running record-breakers

Is evening exercise more effective?

Hi all!

With summer fast approaching, the extended evenings present a perfect opportunity to rethink our routines. Lately, I’ve been trying to get out for a walk after dinner. But, maybe I should take it a step further — today, we’re looking into the benefits of evening exercise.

Plus, we’ll also cover:

  • How a busy entrepreneur and soon-to-be mom approaches health and wellness

  • New product drops for long-distance runners, home workout-lovers, and anyone that likes to look good on the greens

Let’s go!

Why you don’t need to be a morning person

Fitness gurus on TikTok and Instagram often preach that you should “rise and grind.” But, what if the secret to better health and longevity is actually the opposite?

New data suggests that getting your body moving at the end of the day between 6pm and midnight may be better compared to morning or afternoon exercise.

Why evening workouts deliver substantial benefits:

Sure, there's no one-size-fits-all answer to when you should work out. But, instead of ending the day with a Netflix binge, think about squeezing in a quick workout.

Optimizing your evenings: Simple ways to move more…

  • Not at 10K yet? If you're short on steps, aim to meet your goal with a post-dinner walk

  • Make it social: Join a local rec league or running club and transform exercise into a fun, social event

  • Try something new: Experiment with different classes at fitness hotspots like Barry’s, Orangetheory, or SoulCycle.

  • Skip the elevator: Taking the stairs is a simple way to sneak in some cardio

The bottom line: Missing the sunrise doesn't mean missing out on your goals. Whether you’re a morning person or a night owl, what really matters is that you find a time to move that feels right for you. And, hey... maybe a bit of evening activity is just the tweak your routine needs.

My Health Stack by Sara Cullen

Each week in our Health Stack series, Wellworthy taps into its network of health and fitness experts to offer personal insights and recommendations.

This week: Sara Cullen. Sara’s the founder and chief executive officer of nutrition brand GEM.

GEM founder and CEO Sara Cullen

As a busy entrepreneur and soon-to-be mom, Sara prioritizes simplicity in her health and wellness routine. Whether it's leisurely strolls on the beach or in the forest, staying hydrated with lemon-infused water, cherishing moments with loved ones, or ensuring a good night's sleep, Sara thrives on uncomplicated practices.

To complement her lifestyle, she relies on a select few products that she's grown to love… Here’s Sara to share her current Health Stack:

How I get moving:

  • The Class by Taryn Toomey: “I’ve done this religiously since the pandemic - and I still do it even pregnant. A mix of dance & cardio, my cathartic release”

How I manage life as an entrepreneur:

  • Dashi: “This is my go to when I’m lazy and can’t figure out what to make for dinner. Throw a few tea bags of Dashi into boiling water, toss in whatever veggies you can find in your fridge and noodle of choice (soba or udon), some seaweed, and voila you have yourself a glorious warm cozy soup in less than 10 minutes. It’s so good and easy!”

  • Beekeeper’s Natural Propolis throat spray: “I talk a lot at work — especially when I’m fundraising — and this has saved me from a dry throat and a raspy voice for years. Also, an incredible immune booster!”
