Health Stack: Dr. Will Cole

Each week, we tap our network of health and fitness experts to offer personal insights and recommendations.

This week: Dr. Will Cole, a functional medicine expert, bestselling author, and host of The Art of Being Well podcast.

Despite spending up to 10 hours a day in telehealth consults, Cole stays active with a walking pad and prioritizes “nutrient-dense, gut-nourishing” foods like quality meats and bone broth.

Dr. Will Cole.

Here’s Dr. Cole to share the products he uses and recommends to his patients:

  • RA Optics Glasses: “I use these daily to support my circadian rhythm and protect against blue light exposure, especially during screen time and in the evenings.”

  • Sunlighten Sauna: “Infrared sauna therapy is a key part of my weekly routine for supporting detoxification, improving circulation, and reducing inflammation.”

  • Pioneer Pastures A2 Protein Milkshake: “This is my go-to post-workout or midday protein boost. It's made from high-quality A2 dairy, which is easier on the gut and less inflammatory for many people. It’s a clean, efficient way to support muscle repair and energy levels.”

  • Agent Nateur Holi (Mane): “I love this marine collagen supplement for its simplicity and efficacy. It supports gut integrity, skin, hair, joints, and overall connective tissue health—important for both appearance and long-term wellness.”

  • The Art of Being Well Supplement Line: “These are foundational formulas I believe most people can benefit from: The Methylator (B Complex), The Magnesium, The K2D3.”

On Our Radar

Interesting stories we spotted this week →

Plastics overload. A sweeping review in Environmental Sciences Europe confirms that microplastics and nanoplastics (MPs/NPs) are infiltrating the food system and our bodies. MPs damage soil health, reduce crop quality, and accumulate in produce, meat, and even human tissue. Despite growing health risks, from oxidative stress to hormonal disruption, there’s little regulatory oversight. Lower your risk by using glass or metal containers, ditching non-stick cookware, and never microwaving plastic.

Movement is medicine. A landmark study of 900 colon cancer patients found structured exercise led to 37% lower death risk and 28% reduction in cancer recurrence. Most participants walked briskly for 45-minutes, four times a week. After five years, 80% remained disease-free, versus 74% in the control group, translating to one life saved for every 14 people who followed the plan.

Structured exercise may improve cancer outcomes.

Diet psychology. A large-scale analysis of 28k adults reveals calorie-restrictive diets are linked to higher depressive symptoms, especially among men and overweight individuals. Restrictive diets often cause deficiencies in protein, vitamins, and brain-critical omega-3s, while the stress of failed weight loss may also worsen mood. The takeaway? Focus on nutrient-dense whole foods and sustainable eating patterns over severe calorie cuts for long-term success.

The 4Rs of recovery. Want to improve your recovery? New research suggests following the 4Rs: Rehydrate with 150% of the body mass lost during exercise plus sodium, Refuel with 1.2g carbs per kg hourly for 4 hours post-workout, Repair with high-quality protein, and Recuperate with pre-sleep nutrition like casein protein or slow-digesting meals to enhance overnight muscle recovery.

Safety alert. BowFlex recalled over 3.8 million adjustable dumbbells due to metal plates dislodging during use, causing 111 reported injuries, including concussions, broken toes, and contusions. The recall affects BowFlex 552 (52.5-lb) and 1090 (90-lb) models, with over 300 reports of plates coming off.
