Health Stack: Esther Sedgwick

Each week, we tap our network of health and fitness experts to offer personal insights and recommendations.

This week: Esther Sedgwick, CEO and co-founder of Carry — the first weighted vest and rucking community purpose-built for women (launching 2025).

At 39, Esther hit a health crossroads: "I started to feel out of control. My routine just wasn’t working as well anymore." So she revamped her diet, exercise, and sleep habits to focus on hormone health and longevity.

Esther Sedgwick is CEO and co-founder of Carry.

A busy mom and startup founder, Esther maintains balance through weekly planning and self-compassion: "I give myself grace on the days I can't mark everything complete, and maximize the days when I have time to crank stuff out."

Here’s Esther to share the tools and practices that helped her regain control of her health:

  • Peloton App: “I’ve been a dedicated Peloton user since becoming a mom. I don’t have as much time or flexibility to train and play sports. Peloton helps me maintain my ‘everyday hybrid athlete’ status. I typically take 2-3x strength, 1-2x cycling, 1x yoga, and 2x outdoor classes each week.”

  • Spotify:Music helps me crush my workout and podcasts have become my favorite companion for long rucks when I go solo.”

  • Trigger Point Eco Foam Roller: “I use this roller to release tightness in my calves, IT bands, hip flexors, glutes, lats, and anywhere else that needs some love after a training session.”

  • Mind Body Green Creatine + Taurine: “Creatine isn’t just for bodybuilders! Taking 3-5 grams/day builds healthy bones and stronger muscles while supporting cognitive performance and energy levels. I take it daily and recommend it for most women 40+. It’s backed by science and comes in convenient on-the-go stick packs.”

  • Function Health: “Function offers lab tests at a reasonable cost — it’s incredibly empowering. My husband and I are both members and we compete with each other for the lowest biological age.”

Interesting stories we spotted this week →

Stay young. New research on omega-3s proves aging isn’t inevitable. While these vital nutrients become harder to find in modern foods, combining them with vitamin D and regular strength training slows biological aging. The fix doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive: add fatty fish like salmon or sardines twice weekly, get outside for natural vitamin D, and incorporate basic strength moves into your routine.

Ease up. Obsession can stifle success. Runner and author Steve Magness learned this through burnout. "Elite performers learn to go broad," he explains. Studies back this up: Nobel winners typically have diverse interests outside their field and multi-sport athletes outperform those who specialize. The takeaway? Schedule time each week for something unrelated to your goals — your performance might improve when you're not obsessing.

Top of mind. Microplastics are accumulating in our brains at alarming rates — up ~50% since 2016, with brain tissue containing 30x more than other organs. Dementia patients show 10x higher concentrations. Dr. Rhonda Patrick suggests reducing exposure by using a reverse osmosis water filter, avoiding plastic bottles and aluminum cans, and never heating food in plastic containers.
