Health Stack: Jane Wong’s tools for avoiding burnout

Each week, we tap our network of health and fitness experts to offer personal insights and recommendations.

This week: Jane Wong, co-founder and creative director of NOON. Wong sees burnout as "a 360° experience that impacts the mind, body and spirit," and has developed an actionable toolkit to maintain balance.

"I'm focused on consistency with smaller, easier-to-manage habits that help me stay on top of my mental and physical health," Wong adds. Her routine includes morning movement, early sun exposure, and diet optimization to eat healthier and seasonally.

Here are her top recommendations for avoiding burnout:

  • Bathhouse Day Pass: “One of the best gifts you could give yourself (and a friend). The space is beautifully designed and just exudes sophisticated chill. The variety of spaces for sauna, steam, and cold plunge is perfect for a solo day to relax and detox, or hang with friends in quiet conversation.”

  • Hydragun HeatPod Sauna Blanket 2: “I got introduced to the sauna blanket as I was recovering from my last burnout and it was a game changer to help me up my endorphins in a relaxing way, and it also forced me to take long bouts to rest while using it. I slept better, felt more relaxed, and sweat– all good things.

  • 3rd Ritual Acupressure Polygon: “A super simple tool that works along the meridians of our body to tap trigger points for better circulation and release tension. I use this when I’m feeling deep knots and it’s helped me immensely find immediate pain relief.”

  • Teenage Engineering Speaker: “One of the best instant cures for stress is music. Sound has such an incredible impact on your perception of yourself and the world, and as someone who is a bit of an audiophile, investing in a good speaker to experience music more ‘internally’ has been life-changing. I love everything Teenage Engineering does, and their speakers are a perfect medium.”

  • NOON’s CHILL Mushroom Gummy Delights: “It’s hard to choose one gummy I love the most, but this one is the most versatile and super tasty, which makes you enjoy it much more. When I’m feeling the creep of stress, I take 2 to help calm my nervous system, keep me feeling steady and less scattered.”

Interesting stories we spotted this week →

Cut the sugar. New research links sugary beverages to 2.2 million new diabetes cases and 1.2 million cardiovascular disease cases in 2020 alone. The reason? These drinks spike blood sugar and insulin levels, leading to metabolic dysfunction and increased disease risk.

Solitude surge. Americans are spending more time alone than ever – an extra 99 minutes at home daily compared to 2003, with young adults showing a 35% increase in isolation. Offering social connection, run clubs, group workouts, and wellness experiences are a powerful antidotes to solitude.

Cottage cheese’s comeback. Once a staple, cottage cheese is having a moment: sales are up over 50% in five years as health-conscious consumers seek high-protein snacks. Leading the charge, good culture reimagined this classic dairy product for a new generation looking for whole-food alternatives to processed protein supplements.
